Welcome!

Hello, hello! Welcome to my online portfolio. I’m Jen Wiley, currently in graduate school to get my MLIS with a Certificate of Advanced Study in Cultural Heritage Preservation at Syracuse University. I am on track to graduate in the spring of 2012.
Before coming to Syracuse, I got my BA in Classics/Latin at the University of Virginia. While there, I worked in the Small Special Collections Library on campus in the Digital Curation department as a student digitization assistant. There I used a variety of software and equipment to digitize all media of rare materials including books, manuscripts, photographs, and slides and built catalogs to order. The summer after my graduation in 2009 I moved on to an internship at Greene County Historical Society in central Virginia where I used FileMaker Pro to build a database for the artifacts of the society’s museum and organized the collection following archival guidelines. By the end of that summer, I knew I wanted to stay in this field.
I deeply believe in the importance of saving physical artifacts, manuscripts, and books for a more personal take on history and making them widely accessible to the public. When it comes down to it, I am a classicist and archivist at heart learning to live in a technological world.
Here you will find examples of some of the work I have previously done as well as information on projects I am currently pursuing and my academic blog. Please feel free to explore and to contact me with any questions.
